Otulissa Ogston - X-Men OC

After a recent obsession with all things Marvel & X-Men, I came across an online RP community of both cannon and original characters and took up role-playing once again for the first time in a long time!

Thus, Otulissa came about. Yes, her name derived from the Guardians of Ga'Hoole character; I fell in love with the name after re-reading the books! Unfortunately I could never live with myself if I gave that name to a future child, so...a character will have to do!

Her biography is pasted below; if anyone would like to hit me up for an RP, just drop a note. I love a good action-y, emotional, non-sexual story.

---About/Personality---
Otulissa is generally very warm and careful individual, being extremely bright and full of potential. She lives in a world full of possibilities and can become very passionate over things; finding it easy to inspire, convince, and motivate others. She can talk her way out of anything, and when gone unchecked, Otulissa finds it quite easy to manipulate things to her desired outcome. Her advanced empathy for others can be seen as both a reward and hindrance, as she is always keenly aware to the moods and feelings of those around her. Passive yet confident, Otulissa is fiercely protective of her loved ones and isn’t afraid to use her powers for a good purpose.

Otulissa Ogston is a 19-year old mutant with honey blonde hair, peachy skin, and hazel eyes. Born with a mutation that gave her hollow bones, an advanced metabolism, and large elliptical-shaped wings, Otulissa quickly mastered the ability of natural flight. At 5’6” and only 88 pounds, her body remains extremely agile yet less suited to aggressive physical combat. Her wingspan stretches over 14 feet, with plumage resembling that of a grass owl.

Indestructible Wings
Otulissa’s most prominent power is that of natural flight due to her large tawny-feathered wings. Her wings possess superhuman strength and a very flexible skeletal structure that enables her to press them against her back with only the slightest bulge visible underneath her clothing. The strength in her wings can easily break bones or send someone through a wall and are often used as a bullet-proof shield in combat.

Emotion Manipulation
Otulissa’s pathokinesis was her first ability to materialize in adolescence. The ability to sense and change the emotions of others led her to evolve a passive yet confident temperament. Rather than an illusion, Otulissa’s power influences individual perceptions and thus cannot be blocked by any mental shields. She will unconsciously gravitate towards those with positive mindsets, drawn to their pleasant aura. This ability can control a single individual up to a large crowd, lasting as long as she wills it within her available range.

Sensory Deprivation
Otulissa is able to deprive the senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing of others. She can manipulate the effects into merely incapacitating a few senses or to inhibit all at once for a desired length of time. Her ability can be used from a single individual to a large crowd, often for anesthetic purposes or to avoid conflict. This power lasts as long as Otulissa can keep focus and occurs almost instantaneously.

Advanced Empathy
Able to read the feelings of others, Otulissa is able to understand introverts or discover hidden motives, giving her the power to attack someone in a deeply personal way. However, it is possible for the emotions she is reading to cloud her own focus or take over her own ambitions. It is only through extreme focus that allows Otulissa to sense and control another’s perceptions without letting them posses her own.

Modified Physiology
Otulissa was born with hollow bones, making her body extremely light. Her body processes are above that of a normal human, able to process energy more efficiently. As a result, her strength, speed, agility, flexibility, endurance, reflexes, coordination, balance, eyesight, and hearing are at their peak. Her elevated metabolism burns through energy at an excessive rate, requiring her to eat large amounts of food frequently. Her longest nonstop flight lasted nearly 12 hours.

---History---
A mutant wasn’t exactly what Otulissa’s parents had in mind when preparing to have a baby girl. In the womb, doctors confirmed she indeed contained mutated genomes, causing her bones to grow hollow and small buds on her shoulders where wings would soon form.

After delivery, Otulissa was signed away to be experimented on by curious humans deep in a nameless laboratory. She grew up there, with little love or affection, learning to fly and discover her abilities under the scrutiny of cold doctors and biologists. She knew no other life, no perception of the world outside of a small cell and her dank testing facility.

One day, not long after she had come into puberty, Otulissa began to feel and manipulate the emotions of her observers. It was subtle at first, but over the course of a year she could begin to identify sources and meaning of each scientist’s feelings, learning about the world through the unconscious thoughts of others. And she wanted to see and feel it herself.

After weeks of careful planning, her opportunity finally arrived after lulling the night shift guard to sleep, stealing his keys, and unlocking the door to her escape. The ecstasy of freedom gave strength to her wings as she soared up and out of the cave that had hid her for so long. Her wings were strong – ripping through the meek defenses laid out by her captors and deflecting all attacks. As she took to the air, free in the night, she realized she must find others like her – they were the only ones who would understand.

Soon after, she became aware of Professor Xavier’s school, enrolling but only occasionally attending classes. She was done with cramped buildings, already a master of her own devices, and eager to change the lives of the needy and helpless. She would grow loyal to the X-Men and their ways but would always retain the free spirit within her heart.
